I’m Charlotte Read, I live in Somerset, UK.

My illustration journey began when I became a mother, but I have always sketched for pleasure, like keeping a diary during a backpacking trip around South America (See below).

I discovered the incredible world of picture books when reading to my children, it has brought me so much joy and helped me connect back to my childhood. My inspiration for drawing comes from seeing my children interact with the natural world, how they lose themselves, noticing that beautiful moment when they are no longer separate from it. Running in the long grass, clambering up in the branches of a tree, flapping wild in the waves, arms outstretched in the wind, face to the rain.

I have two First Class degrees from University College Falmouth (2007) and King’s College, London (2012). For a full CV please email me.
